A Night at the Opera!

If you haven't been to the opera yet, it may be time to change that! Whether you live in Edmonton, or in another city, local opera houses and organizations are putting on amazing operas that make for a fantastic night out, such as Rossini's Cinderella!

Styled with 1950s haute couture in mind, this classic story is told with soaring notes and jaw dropping fashions and just the perfect amount of comedy making it a great introduction to opera (and after all, who doesn't love Cinderella?). While the custom designed costuming by Deanna Finnman, such as the ball gown the opera's Cinderella wears, are under tight wraps we did get a fantastic preview of two the step sisters outfits that any vintage fan is sure to appreciate as well as these stunning fashion sketches! With inspiration being drawn from designers like Givenchy, Jacques Fath, and Pierre Balmain it's easy to get drawn in to the eye catching fashion aspects of the performance.

Even without having seen the opera yet, it's easy to see a contrast between the step sisters vibrantly coloured and patterned outfits that are designed to juxtapose against Cinderella's simplistic Audrey Hepburn inspired outfit which is a theme that continues through the opera's aesthetics.
